Ustad Puran Chand Wadali was not interested to learn the music but their father forced him to learn music. They started to learn music from Pandit Durga Das and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Wadali brothers first performed live in the Harballabh Temple which was situated in the Jalandhar City. The duo went to Jalandhar in 1975 to perform at Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan but was not allowed to sing because their appearance did not pass muster. They decided to make a musical offering at the Harballabh temple, where an executive of All India Radio, Jalandhar, recorded their first song.

The Wadali Brothers sing in different geners like the gurbani, kafi, ghazal and bhajan genres of music. They live in their ancestral house in Guru Ki Wadali and teach music who are promised to preserve it. They do not charge their disciples and believe in the Sufi tradition deeply and lead a very simple and devoted life. Wadali brothers consider themselves as a medium through which the preaching of great saints is passed on to others and never indulged commercially. They have handful of recordings by their name and most of them are from live concerts. The first lent their voice in Bollywood in 2003 in national award winning film Pinjar which was followed by a few films. Discovery channel is currently planning to make a documentary on them.
