Supriya Devi is a great actress who has a glorious past in filmy career. She predominantly appears in Bangali films. She appears in Bangali films for more than 50 years. She is the recipient of BFJA Awards for two times, Bangla Bibhushan and Padma Sree. Supriya was born in Myitkyina, Burma. Her father is from Bangladesh (Faridpur) . During World War|| they moved to Culcutta. She was a dancer and a marvelous dancer. In 1954, Supriya got married to Bishwanath Choudhury and a few years later she gave birth to her only daughter Soma. She took her retirements in late 50s from the films. Later she started her life with Mahanayak Uttam Kumar.


Supriya was Seven years old when she had her debut. She made her acting debut in two plays directed by her father. She was a dancer since her childhood even receiving an award from Thakin Nu. The Bannerjees left Burma for good and re-settled in Calcutta in 1942. During that time they were the refugees is Japanese forces occupied Burma. The young Supriya and her family were forced to undertake an arduous trek on foot to the safety of Calcutta. She resumed her dance lessons and trained under Guru Muruthappan Pillai and later under Guru Prahlad Das. She and her family was in a great friendly relationship with Chandrabati Devi, a popular character actor. It was she whose Inspiration made Supriya Step into Bangali Films.
