G. V. Prakash Kumar is an Indian film actor, singer and soundtrack composer, born on 13 June, 1987, Chennai, India. He predominantly acted and scored music for Tamil films. He became popular in Tamil film by the early 2010s with his first film S Pictures “Veyyil”.

Music Career:

G. V. Prakash Kumar began his film career as a music composer with the critically acclaimed Tamil film “Veyyil”, directed by Vasantha Balan and produced by S. Shankar in 2006. All of the songs in this film were well received. He received critical acclaim for his music in Selvaraghavan’s drama film “Mayakkan Enna” starring Dhanush. Five songs of this film were written by Dhanush and Selvaraghavan. He first appeared on the soundtrack of director S. Shankar’s Tamil film “Gentleman” as a vocalist, which was composed by his maternal uncle A. R. Rahman. He also contributed to A. R. Rahman’s other projects such as “Thiruda Thiruda, “Maymaadam” and others. He recently composed the songs of “Bruce Lee”, where he also worked as a playback singer.

Film Career:

G. V. Prakash Kumar made his first appearance in the Tamil film, when he was noticed by director A. R. Murugadoss on a poster promoting his work in “Thaandavam” in 2012 and contacted him to act in the film. Prakash signed to star in the film and though the film was failed at the box-office, he remained interested to act in films.

Prakash Kumar launched his own production house in 2013, under the title G. V. Prakash Kumar Productions”. The first film of his production house was “Madha Yaanai Koottam”, which was directed by the former assistant of Balu Mahendra, Vikram Sugumaran.

In 2015, Prakash appeared in the horror film “Darling” which became a big hit at the box-office. He received positive reviews for his performance and won several awards, including Edison Award for Debut Actor, SIIMA Award for Best Debut Actor, Filmfare Award (South) for Best Male Debut. Then he appeared in the film “Pencil” in 2016 alongside Sri Divya, where he played the role of a school student Shiva.

He has signed a film titled “Bruce Lee” in 2017. The shooting of this film has started in October, 2016 and is to be expected to hit the screens in summer 2017. The film is starring the debutante actress Kriti Kharbanda opposite of Prakash.

G. V. Prakash Kumar was born on to G. Venkatesh and playback singer A. R. Reihana, elder sister of A. R. Rahman. He studied at Chettinad Vidyashram, where he met singer Saindhavi, with whom he married in 2013 at the Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall in Chennai.
