Yilmaz Erdogan is a Turkish actor, filmmaker and poet of Kurdish descent, born on 4 November, 1967 in Hakkari, Turkey. He is most famous for his box-office record-breaking debut comedy film “Vizontele” (2001) and the television series “Bir Demet Tiyatro” (1995). His other notable works include “The Butterfly’s Dream” (2013), “Magic Carpet Ride” (2005) and “Vizontele Yuuba” (2003).

Education and Career:
Yilmaz Erdogan born in Hakkari, but grew up in Ankara until his family moved to Istanbul. He started his graduation in civil engineering at Istanbul Technical University but he discontinued his study and joined the On Duty Theatre Staff in 1987, which was managed by Ferhan Sensoy. He became a chief screenwriter at Levent Kirca’s long-running TV Sketch show “Olacak O Kadar”. He established his own theater named “Guldusunduru” in 1988 and staged successful production of his self-penned play “Kanuni Sultan Suleyman ve Rambo”.
In 1994, Yilmaz Erdogan founded the Besiktal Cultural Center with his business partner Necati Akpinar. He got recognition for his role as Mukremin Abi in his groundbreaking television series “Bir Demet Tiyatro” (1995 – 2002) along with actress Demet Akbag which aired on Star TV. He continued his theatrical success with his next plays and musicals, including “Cebimdeki Kelimele”. He recorded a poetry album titled “Kayip Kentin Yakisiklisi” composed by Nizamettin Aric, Metin Kalender and Ali Aykac. The album includes 17 poems, which are accompanied by traditional Turkish music.
Erdogan wrote, directed and appeared in the comedy film “Vizontele” in 2001 and he achieved box-office record breaking success for this film. The film was also followed by its sequel “Vizontele Tuuba” in 2004. Since then, Yilmaz Erdogan has produced various films, including “Organize Isler” (2005), “Neseli Hayat” (2009), “Eyyvah Eyvah” (2010) and “Cok Filim Hareketler Bunlar” (2010).
Erdogan recieved numerous awards, including the Cevat Fehmi Baskut Special Award in the Afife Theatre Awards in 1999, the Best Actor Award in the Sadri Alisik Awards in 2001 for his film “Vizontele” and the Best Comedy TV series Award in the Golden Butterfly Awards in 2009 for the television series “Cok Guzel Hareketler Bunlar”.
