Saritha is an Indian actress, she was born on 7 January, in Munipalle, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India. She has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu films. She has acted in more than 151 films in her film career. She has also worked as a television actress and voice actor; she has won several awards in her career. Her sister Viji Chandrasekhar is also a South Indian actress. Saritha won many state awards, 7 Filmfare awards, 9 film fans association awards. Special jury awards.
Saritha made her acting debut with the Telugu film Maro Charithra opposite Kamal Haasan, under the direction of K. Balachandra. The film was about cross-cultural romance, in which she acted as a Telugu speaking girl. Because of her talent, she got more film offers by K. Balachandra. Later Saritha appeared in several films under the direction of Balachandra such as Thappu Thalangal, Idi Katha Kaadu, Netrikan, Agni Sakshi, Achamillai Achamillai etc. Saritha also acted in Vandichakkaram, Uthukavithai, Kalyana Agathigal. She won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress awards for her excellent performance in Vandichakkaram and Achamillai Achamillai. She also acted in K. Balachandra’s 47 Natkal as a guest role as herself and its Telugu remake. She appeared in Sujatha in 1980, in which she played the role of the cancer-affected woman, for this role she had her head tonsure. In 2005, she also appeared as a psychotic role in the film Julie Ganapathi opposite Jayaram and Ramya Krishnan, under the direction of Balu Mahendra. But unfortunately, both the films, 47 Natkal and Julie Ganapathi were unsuccessful. Saritha won the Nandi Special jury Award for her brilliant performance in the film Arjun in 2004, she appeared as “Aandaalu” in that film.
Saritha has also worked as a voice actor in several films in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. She gave her voice to many popular actresses such as Madhavi, Soundarya, Ramya Krishnan, Nagma, and Vijayashanti. She gave voice to Soundarya Maa Ayana Bangaram (1997) and Anthapuram (1999) and won the Nandi Award for Best Female Dubbing Artist.
Among the Saritha’s 141 films till 2006, she claims that “Marocharithra”, “Thanneer Thanneer”, and “Agnisakshi.” are the best three films. She also claimed that at the first day on the set of “Marocharithra”, nobody was happy with her performance and she almost got fired. But later she showed some excellent job and the director K. Balachandra was very impressed with her performance. She has acted in all the four major regional languages of South India, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Saritha married twice. Her first marriage was in 1975, with Venkata Subbaih, a Telugu actor and later got divorced in 1976. Then she married Mukesh, a Malayalam actor on 2 September 1988. The couple has two sons named Shravan & Tejas. Shravan is studying M.B.B.S in Ras Al Khaimah University, United Arab Emirates and Tejas is studying in degree at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. But later Saritha and Mukesh got divorced and Saritha is now staying with her son in a separate house in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
