Priyamani started her career with modeling in Kancheepuram silks, Erode silks and Lakshmi silks. After 12th standard, famous Tamil Director, Bharathiraja introduced her into the film industry.Priyamani started her acting career with the Kollywood film “Kangalal Kaithu Sei” with Vaseegaran, which was a flop at the box-office. Later, she was paired with Dhanush in “Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam” directed by Balu Mahendra, which also flopped at the box-office as well. Then she moved on to Malayalam and Telugu films. She made her Telugu debut in “Pellaina Kothalo” with Jagapati Babu in 2006. Priyamani rose to fame with this film. Priyamani has made her Tamil comeback with the internationally acclaimed Tamil movie “Paruthiveeran” directed by Ameer Sultan, starring Karthik Sivakumar. She has also signed on another Tamil film in which she plays the lead role with the actor Jeevan.Priyamani made her debut in the Malayalam film with “Sathyam”, but this film performed poorly at the box office. Then she was signed with Tamil film director and cinematographer Balu Mahendra to act in “Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam” in 2005. It was critically acclaimed but failed at the box office. Although, she won acclaim for her performance in the film.
After several Tamil hit films, including “Yamadonga”, “Malaikottai”, “Paruthi Veeran” and “Thirakkatha”, she has successfully established herself as a promising actress in the South Indian film industry.
She won the prestigious National Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Muthazaghu in the Tamil film “Paruthiveeran” and for her role as Malavika in Malayalam film “Thirakkatha” in 2008. After her commercial successes in Kannada films, including “Raam”, “Ko Ko”, “Anna Bond” and “Only Vishnuvardhana”, she established herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in the Kannada Film Industry.
She was signed by director Mani Ratnam for his bilingual movie, “Raavanan and Raavan” in Tamil and Hindi respectively, by which she was roped in by Bollywood director and producer Ram Gopal Varma for his big-budget trilingual movie “Rakht Charitra” starring Vivek Oberoi and Surya Sivakumar.In 2010, she acted opposite Mammootty in the satirical movie “Pranchiyettan & the Saint” which became the longest running Malayalam film since 2005.
She won a Filmfare nomination for her role as a Mumbai-based interior decorator in this film.Priyamani will also be seen as a lover of young hero Nithin in his next film “Drona”. The film is said to be a romantic action thriller with Priyamani in a stylish tomboy role.
Personal Life:Priyamani was born in Palakkad, Kerala to Vasudeva Mani Iyer and Latha Mani Iyer. She was brought up in Bangalore. Priyamani has a great passion for acting and her favorite actors are Mammooty, Anant Nag and Mohanlal. She is a very smart talkative girl, who loves chatting with people and her favorite hobbies include music and dance. She is Bollywood actress Vidya Balan’s cousin.She is currently pursuing a degree in B.A. in psychology.
