Leila Mourad was an Egyptian film actress and singer, born on 17 February, 1918 in Cairo, Egypt. She was known for her work in “The Flirtation of Girls” (1949), “Flowers of Love” (1952) and “Lady on the Train” (1953).

Leila Mourad started her film career with Muhammad Kareem’s “Yahya al-Hobb” alongside Muhammad Abdul Wahhaab in 1938. She made her singing debut with the film “Al-Dahaaya”. Togo Mizraahy made her the number one Egyptian actress, by giving chance in four films, which are “Laila Momtera” (1939), “Laila Bent al-Reef” (1941), “Laila Bent Madaares” (1941) and “Laila (1942)”. The use of her name in all these film titles shows, how appealing she was.

Leila Mourad retired from her singing and acting career in 1956. There were many attempts to convince her to return to film, but all attempts failed as she only accepted to sing on Radio.

Personal Life:

Leila Mourad was born in Al Daher, Cairo to an Egyptian of Iraqi Jewish descent father named Zaki Mourad, who was a singer and musician and to a Jewish mother whose family is from Poland. Her elder brother Mounir Mourad was an actor and composer.

She was married to actor, director and producer Anwar Wagdy in 1947 and they made a very famous duet in numerous classics, which ended by their divorce. Later, Laila married Wageeh Abaaza in 1953 and they gave birth their son Ashraf. They also got divorced, and finally she married director Fateen Abdul Wahab in 1954 and gave birth a son.


Leila Mourad died on 21 November, 1995 in Cairo, Egypt.
