K. Bhagyaraj is a South Indian film actor, director, producer and screenwriter, born on 7 January, 1953 in Vellankoil, India. He mainly works in Tamil films, but he has also worked in some Telugu and Hindi films and television serials. He is well known for his works in the film “Aakhree Raasta” (1986), “Raja Babu” (1994) and “Mr. Bechara” (1996).

K. Bhagyaraj had a great interest in films since his childhood days and later he moved to Chennai to establish his career in the film industry. He entered into the film industry in 1977 and started his career as an assistant director with director Bharathiraja and G. Ramakrishnan. He became recognized for his talent in script writing while he was working under the guidance of senior directors.
In 1978, he wrote scripts for the hit Tamil film “Kizhake Pogum Rayil” and Bharathiraja’s “Tik Tik Tik” in 1981. Both of these films received positive reviews. K. Bhagyaraj made his directorial debut in 1979 with the film “Suvarillatha Chittirangal”. He quickly established in the Tamil film industry and began producing distinctive films. In the same year, he made his first appearance in films in the leading role in the film “Puthiya Vaarpugal” alongside Rati Agnihotri. His first big success came through the blockbuster hit Tamil film “Kanni Paruvathile” alongside Vadivukkarasi and Rajesh in 1979.
Bhagyaraj has written dialogues and screenplays of many hit films and subsequently he has acted in many hit films, including “Bhama Rukmini” (1980), “Vidiyum Vari Kaathiru” (1981), “Indru Poyi Naalai Vaa” (1981), “Antha Ezhu Natkal” (1981) and “Mouna Geethanagal” (1981). He also worked in Bollywood films and directed the Hindi blockbuster hit film “Aakhree Rasta” starring superstar Amitabh Bachchan in 1986 which was a remake of “Oru Kaidhiyin Diary”.
Bhagyaraj also worked for TV shows, including “Idhu Oru Kadhayin Kadhai”, “Neenga Nenaicha Saadhikkalanga” and “Apapadi Podu”. The failure of his films such as “Vaettiya Madichi Kattu” (1997) “Gnana Pazham” (1996), and “Sokka Thangam” (2003) forced K. Bhagyaraj to retire. In 2006, he made his comeback with the direction of the film “Parijatham”, which was his daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj’s debut film along with Prakash Raj, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Sarath Babu. The film was a big commercial hit of the year 2006. Recently, he has acted in “Mupparimanam” (Cameo Appearance) and “Ayyanar Veethi” in the year 2017. His Tamil film “Veruli” is under filming.
Subsequently, K. Bhagyaraj is involved in writing and editing of weekly magazine “Bhagya” and so far he also wrote seven novels and a few books.
