Hend Sabry is a Cairo-based Tunisian actress and a lawyer. She was appointed as an ambassador against hunger by the UN World Food Program in 2010. “Arabian Business” listed her among the “100 Most Powerful Arab Women” in 2013.

Education and Career:

Hend Sabry graduated in law at the Faculty of Law of Tunis in 2001. Then she completed her masters in law, intellectual property and copyright in 2004. At the age of fourteen, she made her acting debut in the Tunisian production “Silence of Palaces” in 1994. After appearing in a number of Tunisian films, Hend made her breakthrough by “A Teenager’s Diary”, which was considered as the most controversial film in 2002. Her role in this film gave her immediate recognition across the Arab world and she became one of the most prominent Tunisian actresses in Egypt and the Arab world in a short span of time. Some of her other films include “The Season of Men” and “Samt Al Soqoor”.

Sabry is currently pre-producing her new film “Asmaa”, which is being produced by Mohamed Herzy and written and directed by Amr Salama. “Asmaa” is based on a true story and addresses taboos in Egypt. She won the Fifth Abu Dhabi Film Festival Awards in 2011. 

Sabry is prominently involved in social and humanitarian work since 2009. She has been working closely with the UN World Food Program for raising awareness about hunger. She became WFP Regional Ambassador in 2010. She is one of the four women who have contributed in the Facebook campaign inspired by the Arab spring titled “The Uprising of Women in the Arab World” which promotes gender.
