Dhanush is an Indian film actor, director, producer, writer and playback singer, born on 28 July, 1983 in Chennai, India. He mainly appears in Tamil films and is best known for his performance in the film “Aadhukalam”, “Thiruda Thirudi” and “Ranjhanaa”.

Dhanush entered into the film world with the film “Thulluvadho Ilamai” which was directed by his father Kasthuri Raja in 2002. The film was a big hit all over Tamil Nadu and received mostly positive reviews from the critics and audience. Then, he acted in his brother Selvaraghavan’s debut directorial venture “Kadhal Konden” in 2003, where he played the role of a mentally disturbed youth Vinoth. The film was commercially hit and critically acclaimed. His last film in 2013, “Thiruda Thirudi” became a blockbuster hit.
In 2006, Dhanush again teamed up with his brother with the film “Pudhupettai”, where he played the role of a gangster, but the film did an average run at the box-office. Then he appeared in the commercial hit film “Thiruvilayadal Arambam” in 2006. The film shows, a love story of a rich girl and a poor guy in a comedy style. He also made a cameo appearance in his father-in-law Rajinikanth’s venture “Kuselan”. Later, Dhanush appeared in the film “Aadukalam” in 2011, where he worked with Vetrimaran and the film received positive reviews and he won the Best Actor award at the 58th National Awards in 2011 for his performance in this film.
In 2012, Dhanush acted in the film “3” directed by his wife Aishwarya Rajnikanth with actress Shruti Haasan. The film was a moderate success, but his song “Why this Kolaveri Di” gave huge popularity and make him to debut in Bollywood film “Ranjhanaa” opposite Sonam Kapoor. In 2013, Dhanush first time worked with A. R. Rahman in the film “Mariyan” directed by Bharath Bala.
In 2015, Dhanush appeared in his second Hindi film, “Shamitabh” alongside superstar Amitabh Bachchan, directed by R. Balki. The film received high positive reviews, but it was failed at the box-office.
Dhanush also works as a playback singer generally in his own films. He made his debut as a playback singer in the film “Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan” with composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. Later, he has sung in Selvaraghavans’ film “Aayirathil Oruvan” and “Mayakkam Enna” where he acted too. His biggest success in singing came with the song “Why this Kolaveri Di” and the song became viral on YouTube and Dhanush gained overwhelming popularity and nationwide fame.

Dhanush was born as Venkatesh Prabhu. His father Kasthuri Raja is a film director and his elder brother Selvaraghavan is also a director. He has two sisters named K. Vimala Geetha, Karthika Devi. Dhanush married Aishwarya Rajnikanth, daughter of superstar Rajnikanth in 2004. They have two sons named Yathra Raja and Linga Raja.
Dhanush completed his schooling from the Thai Sathiya Matriculation High School and then he studied at the St. John’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Alwarthirunagar.
