Ashok is an Indian actor and Bharatnatyam dancer, born on 12 December, 1981 in Thanjavur, Tamilnadu, India. He mainly works in South Indian films. He is best known for his role in the film “Pidichirukku” (2008), “Kadhal Solla Aasai” (2014) and “Vaanam Partha Seemayilae” (2016).

Education and Career:
Ashok completed his schooling at Fatima High School in Vidyavihar and Vani Vidyalaya in Mumbai in 1997. He completed his graduation with majors in sociology, psychology and Hindi literature from St.Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
At his age of four, he learnt Bharatnatyam and trained in Western contemporary Jazz Ballet dance form. He started his career through performing at various stages across India and he also toured all over the U.S. and Europe for various dance projects. Ashok has choreographed several Indo-French and Indo-German dance and theatre Projects. He achieved several awards and honors, including the “Coveted Nritya Mayur” award for excellence in dance.
Ashok was actively involved in several stage productions like Mr. Alyque Padamsee’s musical “Evita”, Mr. Jean Jacques Bellot’s “Love is the Best Remedy”, Mr. Ravi Mishra’s “Katha” for which, he won the Best Actor Award during the IPTA, Munich and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s/Bhavan’s Kala Kendra Theatre Festivals. He also directed the theatre play “Cryptic Death” for the Thespo Theatre Festival. He also worked as an assistant dance choreographer with Ms. Saroj Khan’s Son Mr. Raju Khan.
Ashok took a formal training in acting from Kishore Namit Kapoor’s Acting Institute in Mumbai. In his childhood, he played the role of Little Krishna in Ramanand Sagar’s television serial Sri Krishna. The serial was telecast on Doordarshan channel in 1994 – 1995 and he won the Best Child Actor Award from Uptron.
In 2007, Ashok made his film debut with the Tamil film “Murugaa” which was directed by R.T. Nesan. Then he starred in “Pidichirukku” directed by Kanagu in 2008. He made his Telegu debut with the film “Premistava” in 2010.
He acted in “Vaanam Partha Seemayilae” in 2016, which was produced by Pyramid Saimira Group, where he played the role of Karuppan, a rustic villager. In 2016, Ashok appeared in eight films, including “Home Stay”, “Kannighapuram Sandhippil”, “Priyamudan Priya”, “Konjam Koffee Konjam Kaadhal”, “Ula” and “Kaki”.

Ashok was born in Tamil Nadu in a middle class family to R. Balakrishnan and Rohini Balakrishnan, but he brought up in Mumbai, Maharastra. He has an elder brother named Aroon.
