Ajay devgan Biography
Ajay devgan was born on 2 April 1969 in a punjabi family of Delhi. His birth name was Vishal Veeru Devgan. Ajay is an Indian film actor, director, and producer. His father veeru devgn is a stunt director and mother veena devgn is a film producer. Ajay studied in Silver Beach High School in Juhu and graduated from Mithibai College.
Ajay devgn made his film debut with the film Phool Aur Kaante in 1991 and received a Filmfare Award in Best Male Debut category for his performance. Then he starred in huge films such as Heart (1992), Dilwale (1994), Naajayaz (1995), Diljale (1996) and Ishq (1997). In 1999, Devgn’s performance in Mahesh Bhatt’s drama Zakhm was critically acclaimed. He acted in Lajja in 2001 and Company in 2002. In 2003, his portrayal of Bhagat Singh in Rajkumar Santoshi’s biopic The Legend of Bhagat Singh was highly admired. In last decade he has given many critically and commercially successful films including Raincoat (2004), Omkara (2006), Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006), Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Raajneeti (2010), and Singham (2011). He has established himself as one of the leading actors of Indian films. He released his first film U me aur hum as debutant film director which showed a moderate success at the box office. Then he set up his production house Ajay Devgn Films.
Ajay Devgan has received 32 awards, including two National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards, one Zee Cine Award and others. Devgan made his acting debut in 1991 with a leading role in Phool Aur Kaante, for which he earned the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In 1995, Devgan was nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award for his action-drama Naajayaz. For his great performance in political drama film Zakhm (1998) he was awarded first National Film Award for Best Actor one Screen Award. He also awarded in Bollywood Movie Award (critics) and a BFJA Award for the same category with a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor. in 1999 he got his third filmfare nomination for best actor in romantic drama Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for his role of a traditional Indian man. He starred in the biopic historical film The Legend of Bhagat Singh in 2002 where he played the role of Bhagat Singh. It earned him his second National Film Award and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. In 2002 ajay starred as psychopath killer in thriller film Deewangee which earned him his first Filmfare Best Villain Award along with a Screen Award, Bollywood Movie Award and a Zee Cine Award for similar category. His comedy film All the Best (2009) earned him a Stardust Award for Best Actor in Comic Role and a nomination in IIFA Award for the same category. His action thriller film Singham (2011) was huge box office hit that gained him a Stardust Award for Best Actor in the Action category. He was also nominated for Filmfare Award associated with IIFA Award for the Best Actor category for this film. He was selected the most Profitable Celebrity of 2010 by an online portal. Devgan won some other awards including Rajiv Gandhi Awards for Achievement in Bollywood and the prestigious Padma Shri awards for his contributions in bollywood film industry.
In 1995, Devgan started a relationship with Kajol, during they were co-starring in Gundaraj. On 24 February 1999, they got married in a traditional ceremony at Devgan’s home. The couple has two children now. Devgan changed his surname to a new spelling, Devgn in 2009 as his family requested. Devgan was the first Bollywood personality to own a private jet.
