Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was born in a traditional south Indian family on 1st November 1973; she started modeling when she was young. This green-blue-eyed queen showed her beauty in advertisements for many prestigious firms; she came into the limelight by garden sari and the Pepsi ad. She was Miss India 1994 runner-up and was a hot favorite in the run for miss world title, which she won it. Her beauty and charm made her India’s darling. Ash proved herself as a brilliant & genuine actress in Bollywood film industry. Her performance in Iruvar (1997) was critically praised, and she won the Screen best female debutant award for her role in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997). In the beginning years (1997-1998)

With her green-gray eyes, she was already approached in Bollywood film industry, where they offered her leading roles. She rejected many films offers since she had the ambition to be an architect. However, fate stored the crown of Miss World in 1994. Right after her winning, again she started receiving offers of heroine. In Southern India, She was renowned for her character named Madhumita/Veishnavi in Jeans (1998) and as Meenakshi in I Have Found It (2000). She won the Filmfare Award for best actress for her great acting in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) as Ajay Devgn’s wife who was in love with another man. This former architecture major soon became one of India’s most popular models, landing a prestigious Pepsi-Cola campaign and appearing in Vogue Magazine. In 2000 she was awarded Best Actress by FilmFare and Zee Cine for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) in that same year, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for guest actress in Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein (2000). Ash was nominated for FilmFare’s Best Actress Award in 2001 for Satish Kaushik’s Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000).






Ash was the topic for gossip of the country for her great role of “paaru” in the film Devdas (2002), the most admired and most successful film in Bollywood history. It was the first Bollywood picture to receive a special screening at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. In the film she was casted opposite Shah Rukh Khan where the film was also starred Madhuri Dixit and Jacky Shroff. The film emerged as a major international success with benefits of over ₹840 million (US$13 million). Devdas was chosen as India’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and received a nomination at the BAFTA Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film categories. The film won 10 Filmfare Awards, including a second Best Actress award for Rai in India.

More Success

In 2003, Aishwariya was featured in two romantic dramas of Bollywood, her brother’s production début Dil Ka Rishta, alongside Arjun Rampal, and Rohan Sippy’s Kuch Na Kaho, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Neither of this films was successful. Later she was noted for her role as “Binodini” in Chokher Bali . The film was an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel of the same name of Rituporno Ghosh. After her success of Cokher Bali She returned to Bollywood doing Khankee, an action thriller featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan and Tusshar Kapoor. Upon release, the film received moderate critical and commercial success. Later she appeared in a romantic comedy Kyun! Ho Gaya Na.. .in late 2004 she appeared in Gurinder Chadha’s British film Bride and Prejudice opposite Martin Handerson.Later Aishwariya Rai Bacchan Again met with Rituporno Gosh in A Hindi Film Raincoat. Up next she co-starred alongside Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan in the 2005 adult drama Shabd. In that year Rai took on the lead role of Tilo in Paul Mayeda Berges’s romantic fantasy film The Mistress of Spices, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni .In 2005 she had a special appearance in Film Bunty Aur Bubli. Aishwariya had two film releases in 2006, J P Dutta’s Umrao Jaan and Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom 2. In Dhoom 2 she was portrayed as sunehri . The film was declated as the blockbuster hit and it was the second film of her career to gain that much success after Devdas.

Jodha Akbar and Other Roles in (2008-2010)

After lot of under-performance both critically and commercially, she garnered a box office success in Ashutosh Gowariker’s period romance Jodhaa Akbar (2008). The film narrates a partly fictionalised account of a marriage of convenience between the Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar (played by Hrithik Roshan) and the Rajput princess Jodha Bai (played by Rai). She then co-starred with her present husband, Abhishek Bachchan, and her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, in Ram Gopal Verma’s political drama Sarkar Raj, a sequel to the 2005 box-office hit Sarkar. Later she got her role in the 2009 Harald Zwart-directed spy comedy The Pink Panther 2. Starring alongside Steve Martin, Jean Reno and Emily Mortimer, Rai portrayed the role of Sonia Solandres, a seductive criminology expert. Later she appeared with Abhishek in Raavan But the film couldn’t do that much in the Box office. Rai’s next role was opposite Rajinikanth in the science fiction Tamil film Robot 1.0 (2010), directed by S. Shankar. Up Next she appeared as Mala, an impetuous brat, in Vipul Shah’s Action Replayy; a science fiction comedy co-starring Akshay Kumar, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Neha Dhupia. And Guzarish was her last film.

After that she took a break from films for her motherhood. Later she came back in 2015 with the film Jazbaa co-starring Shabana Azmi and Irrfan Khan. A remake of the Korean thriller film Seven Days.

She became the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. She was honored by the covers of India Today and the famous TIME Magazine, which also listed her on their list of the “100 Most Influential People in the World Today”. She has graced numerous covers around the world including the US, UK, China, Russia, Israel, United Arab Emerites, Italy, Spain and France. In 2004 Aishwarya played role in her first English-language film: Gurinder Chadha’s Bride & Prejudice (2004). She is the first Indian female who has a wax statue at the world-famous Madame Tussaud’s museum in London. In 2016, Aiishwariya got starred in Omung Kumar’s biographical drama Sarbjit. The film is based on the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism by a Pakistani court, and how his sister Dalbir Kaur fought relentlessly for his release. Her final release of 2016 was Karan Johar’s romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in which she played the role of a poetess named Saba.

In 1999 Aishwariya began dating Bollywood actor Salman Khan and the couple got separated in 2002.During the sets of Kuch na Kaho she fell in love with Abhishek Bachchan and they announced their engagement news. The couple got married on 20th April 2007 according to traditional Hindu rites of the Bunt community, to which she belongs. She gave birth to a girl, Aradhya, on 16 November 2011.
